The Pineville account

A small town that shops like a big one.

Pineville covers under seven square miles, yet the land by its two I-485 interchanges grew into what Wikipedia calls the largest shopping district in North Carolina. That's good for foot traffic and hard on anyone trying to be found.

Working for you

  • A walkable historic downtown on Main Street with free parking and a social district open seven days a week.
  • Carolina Place, open since 1991 at NC 51 and I-485, pulling shoppers in from across the region.
  • A population that grew from 7,479 in 2010 to 10,602 in 2020.

Working against you

  • Charlotte wraps around the north, east and northwest, so a search here brings up a lot of Charlotte companies.
  • The South Carolina line is on the southwest side, and Fort Mill is about 8 miles off.
  • National chains near the interchanges spend heavily on ads and listings. A local owner has to be clearer, not louder.

How local search plays out in a town squeezed by Charlotte

From the town journal

Traders were here before the town was.

Buying and selling is older than the name. A few dated entries from Pineville's own books.

  1. Early days

    Morrow's Turnout

Two Native American trading paths cross here. The open meadows let traders turn their animals out to graze, and the stop becomes known for mule trading, stagecoaches and later the Charlotte & Columbia Railroad.

  2. c. 1852

    Renamed Pineville

The settlement takes the name of the tall stands of pine around it.

  3. 1873

    Incorporated

Pineville becomes a town. Younts General Store dates to about the same year.

  4. 1890s

    The mill arrives

Dover Yarn Mills opens a cotton mill. It later runs as Cone Mills until November 1991.

  5. c. 1910

    A bank on Main Street

The Pineville Loan and Savings Bank building goes up in the row that is now the historic district.

  6. 1937

    Town-owned power

Pineville Electric begins serving homes and businesses, a public utility the town still runs.

  7. 1991

    Carolina Place opens

The mall opens at NC 51 and I-485, on land once bought as the planned site of SouthPark.

  8. 2011

    Historic district listed

Fifteen downtown buildings join the National Register as the Pineville Commercial Historic District.

  9. 2023

    150 years

The town marks its 150th anniversary and seals a time capsule to open in 2074.

Posting sequence

How a project gets entered.

  1. Step 1

    Open the account

A phone call first. We cover what you sell, who buys it and which parts of town and the county you serve. Roger will already have looked at your current site and listing.

  2. Step 2

    Draft the chart

He lays out the page list against the searches Pineville customers actually make, and decides where your reviews, photos and credentials should sit.

  3. Step 3

    Post the entries

Writing, design and code, all done here. Each form is sent for real on the live server before you see the first draft.

  4. Step 4

    Reconcile

You go through it, ask for changes, and approve. The site launches, and later edits are an email or a text away.

Work on file

Three projects, labeled honestly.

No Pineville client appears here yet, and we won't pretend otherwise. Each project carries the place its owner actually does business. More detail is on the work page.

Open queries

Questions owners ask first.

Query 01Is the studio in Pineville?

No. Roger works out of Mooresville, which is about 44 miles north, a little under an hour without traffic. Most projects run on phone calls, email and screen share, and he makes the drive down when sitting at the same table helps.

Query 02Who owns the site once it's finished?

You do. The domain, the words, the photos and the code belong to your business. We host it so it stays fast and secure, but nothing is held back if you ever want to move it.

Query 03Is this a WordPress or Wix site?

Neither. Every page is written by hand as plain, lightweight code. There is no admin panel to break into and no page builder slowing it down on a phone.

Query 04What does a website cost?

It depends on how many pages you need, the features, who writes the words and your deadline. You get a fixed quote in writing before anything starts. The pricing page explains how that number is put together.
